About Me and What Shapes My Work?
From an early age, I became fascinated by the importance of romantic relationships and the profound impact they can have on our lives, particularly when challenges or difficulties arise. I became especially interested in the relational patterns that can repeat, which often feel unconscious, and shape how we connect with our partners and ourselves.
I have also long been interested in sexuality and the importance of feeling sexually connected, comfortable, and confident in ourselves and our relationships. At the same time, I became increasingly aware of how much shame, guilt, and self-judgment people can experience when they encounter difficulties with sex or feel disconnected from their partner. These interests have shaped my educational and professional path and continue to motivate me to help individuals and couples build greater connection with themselves, their sexuality, and their partners.
I am also particularly interested in how neurodivergence, such as ADHD, can shape experiences of sexuality and romantic relationships. For some individuals and couples, challenges such as task switching, initiating sex, sensory sensitivities, navigating overwhelm, can have a meaningful impact on intimacy and connection. I believe these experiences deserve to be understood with curiosity and compassion.
Specialization and Approach
I work with individuals and couples navigating a wide range of sexual and relationship concerns, including difficulties with intimacy, sexual connection, desire, communication, conflict, disagreements about sexual frequency, and considering relationship break-up. I also work with neurodivergent individuals and couples, including those navigating ADHD-related challenges that may affect sexuality, intimacy, and relationships. I am also interested in supporting individuals navigating pregnancy and fertility-related challenges.
I approach therapy using a sex-positive, non-judgmental, trauma-informed, and strengths-based perspective. I view each person as a whole and work to understand the many factors, including past experiences, relationships, emotions, values, and broader life circumstances, that shape how we experience ourselves and our relationships.
In our work together, I draw from a blend of evidence-based approaches that I individualize to your needs, including:
Mindfulness-Based Sex Therapy & Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Developing greater awareness and acceptance of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations, particularly around sexuality and intimacy.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Learning to make space for difficult thoughts and feelings, clarify what matters most to you, and move toward your personal values rather than away.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy: Strengthening communication, navigating conflict, and building a stronger foundation for connection and intimacy.
Behavioral Activation: Re-engaging with meaningful, enjoyable, and pleasurable activities when low mood, stress, or other challenges have made it difficult to do so.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Targeting executive dysfunction and developing skills to combat ADHD-related difficulties, such as time management and organization
Training Credentials and Clinical Work
Originally from Canada, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Ottawa, and a Master of Arts in Social Psychology from York University, where I focused on romantic relationships and sexuality. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Throughout my academic training, I have focused on understanding how people make sense of their romantic and sexual experiences and how they navigate relationship and sexual difficulties. My research has examined topics such as unequal division of household chores among partners, previous traumatic or unhealthy relationship experiences, low sexual desire, motivations for engaging in sex with a partner, and overall relationship satisfaction. I am also interested in understanding how neurodivergence can shape experiences of sexuality and romantic relationships, including the unique challenges and strengths that neurodivergent individuals and couples may bring to their relationships.
My research has been published in leading journals focused on sexuality and romantic relationships. This work allows me to stay actively engaged with the evolving research on relationships, sexuality, and evidence-based clinical approaches, which I bring into my clinical work.
Who I Work Best With
I work best with individuals and couples who:
Feel at an impasse in their sexual relationship with their partner
Feel disconnected to their sexual selves
Are finding that trauma, ADHD, or fertility issues are impacting their sex life
Notice their communication and lack of emotional connection are impacting their ability to connect sexually
What Therapy Looks Like
My approach to therapy is active, collaborative, and grounded in both validation and change. I want therapy to be a space where you feel understood and accepted while also having the opportunity to develop new skills and create meaningful change.
Together, we will first develop a shared understanding of what you are experiencing and what your goals are. We may then explore how your past experiences, relationships, and learned patterns have shaped the way you see yourself, relate to others, and experience sexuality and intimacy.
From there, we will work collaboratively to identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and develop practical skills and strategies that you can carry with you outside of therapy. My goal is not simply to help you understand why you feel or respond the way you do, but to help you build the tools and confidence to create relationships and a relationship with yourself that feel more connected, fulfilling, and aligned with your values.
Next Steps
If you are looking to better understand your experiences, develop greater compassion for yourself, and feel more grounded in how you navigate your life, relationships, and transitions, I invite you to schedule a consultation.
